Michelle first joined Davis & Harman as a part-time law clerk during her third year of law school. After graduating with honors from George Washington University Law School in 2005, Michelle became a full-time associate with the firm. Michelle advises Davis & Harman clients on a wide variety of federal income tax issues—including issues associated with the design, development and compliance of annuities, life insurance contracts, long-term care insurance contracts and IRAs. In addition, she represents clients on legislative matters relating to tax-advantaged affordable housing.
"I enjoy being involved in the development of insurance products," says Michelle Garcia. "Playing a role in helping our clients develop feasible, competitive, and compliant products is definitely rewarding."
Michelle praises Davis & Harman's "amazing environment in which to learn"—an environment she promotes in her work on the firm's Recruiting Committee. As a committee member, Michelle helps coordinate recruiting programs, reviews resumes, schedules interviews, and organizes events for Davis & Harman's summer associate program.
In December 2008, Michelle was recognized by the American Bar Association Section of Taxation as a young tax lawyer of achievement and promise, naming her as one of six 2009-2010 John S. Nolan Fellows.
